About

My name is Zach Foley, and this is my blog. I’m an actionscript developer who lives and works in Hollywood California.

I’ve been working with Flash since Flash 3. And my first paid job with flash was working for the legendary Stan Lee, at his dot com. I was a general session speaker at the First Flash Forward conference, and have spoken at industry events in the United States, and also Argentina.

DogsCrew_Videoshoot_DSC_3644I started off as primarily an animator, and developed the first flash content to make the leap from the internet to Television: Stan Lee’s Seventh Portal. That series was translated into 6 languages and distributed worldwide through online and traditioanl media channels. I rose to the ranks there to become the Vice President of Digial Art.

I made my first flash game, Farmer Zach’s Sheep Toss, back in 2000 using Actionscript 1. I followed up when AS2 was released with a clone of asteroids. This pad off when I was recruited by Stat Card Media as their Creative Director. And with that company I helped to design and build the web front end of an online skateboarding game called X-action Skate.

More recently, I have been working in the advertising industry around Hollywood. I was the Executive Director of Technology at Crew Creative, where I worked on some amazing titles such as Harry Potter, and Discovery’s Planet Earth. I also worked with Rob Christenson of Adobe to create the first AIR application for a film release, for the movie Terminator Salvation.

In the last year, I joined the team at BLT Interactive. I’ve made over 20 flash games, either for my own enjoyment or for clients, and I remain extremely passionate about the possibilites of making games using flash.

And for those who are curious, I work on a PC, and use Flash Develop for most of my development work. I also mess around in an amateur way with PHP, Python, Java, Android, Processing, Arduino, Javascript, CSS, and all that other stuff. And I accomplished all of that without anyone noticing that I am a dog.

If you’re still reading at this point, you deserve a reward: Why not go play a game at my other site: Bittygame.com. Then come back here and learn how to make games like that yourself.
